Family Literacy Corner
The University of Utah Reading Clinic (UURC)
provides assessment and intervention services
for developing readers.
Concerned caregivers/guardians may schedule an assessment appointment.
Please note that to qualify for an assessment, a student must have finished at least
3 months of Kindergarten.
A written summary is emailed to caregivers.
If intervention is recommended, the student's name is automatically placed on the
UURC waiting list.
Students on the waiting list are enrolled on a "first come, first served" basis.
Caregivers/guardians are notified when an enrollment opportunity for basic intervention
is available.
UURC services are contingent on a contract that

- student behavior
- requires continued compliance
- must be signed by a student's guardian
UURC basic intervention is
- effective for many developing readers
- targeted at student's developmental reading level
- offered through several research-based models, including
- offered during
- is for students with moderate to severe specific reading difficulties
- as many as 3 students in a classroom have specific reading difficulties
- specific reading difficulties may present as dyslexia
- dyslexia ranges from mild to severe
- response to intervention also ranges accordingly
- best determined by implementing basic intervention and evaluating the student development
- if student doesn't make expected gains, more intensive intervention is warranted
- has limited enrollment spots
- requires additional assessment
- is provided on a "first come-first served" basis
Finally, reading at home has an enormous impact
on the rate and amount of improvement in developing readers
