UURC Assessment: a battery that may include oral reading accuracy, oral reading rate, oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, word recognition automaticity, spelling, phonemic decoding efficiency, listening comprehension, alphabet knowledge, and concept of word.

  1. Three adults working with a student as she is readingSchedule an assessment.
  2. Basic assessments last approximately 45 minutes and cost $70. Payment is made at the time of the appointment in the form of cash, personal check, or credit card.
  3. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire designed to help us understand your student better. If your student has cognitive, psychological, emotional, or physical issues that affect his/her reading ability, please bring copies of prior assessment results with you to the assessment appointment so that we can include them in your student's file and evaluate them as needed.
  4. A clinic staff member will assess your student in some or all of the following areas: oral reading accuracy, oral reading rate, oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, word recognition automaticity, spelling, phonemic decoding efficiency, listening comprehension, alphabet knowledge, and concept of word.
  5. UURC staff members will work as a team to evaluate your student's assessment results and determine if intervention is warranted.
  6. You will receive a written summary of the assessment results and recommendations within two weeks or so of your student's appointment. If you have questions about the results, please feel free to call the clinic for explanation/clarification.
  7. If UURC intervention was recommended, your student's name will be placed automatically on the waiting list. You will be contacted by telephone as soon as an enrollment opportunity becomes available. However, if more than 6 months pass from your student’s testing date, and if you wish to keep your student’s file active on our waiting list, please call to make an appointment for a reassessment, as changes in his/her reading ability may have occurred. The cost of reassessment will be $20. This process is required every six months to maintain an active file for your student.
